Matthew Henry said, “To expect unchanging happiness in a changing world, must end in disappointment. To bring ourselves to our state in life, is our duty and wisdom in this world. God's whole plan for the government of the world will be found altogether wise, just, and good. Then let us seize the favourable opportunity for every good purpose and work. The time to die is fast approaching. Thus labour and sorrow fill the world. This is given us, that we may always have something to do; none were sent into the world to be idle.”
These verses speak of an appointed time. God sets the standard and appoints “times.” Earthly pursuits are not necessarily wrong, but have little profit when they are our main goal!
1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
Time moves on and many changes happen in our lifetime.
2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
We are reminded that our life here is temporary. As pilgrims and strangers on a journey, let us plant the Good News and disciple those who believe.
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
People die, and it takes time for relatives to heal from the emotional pain. There are times when God allows us to be broken so we are able to build up others.
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Yes, there are times to cry. But never forget that laughter is like good medicine. There are times we are so happy that we feel like dancing.
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
There is a time to throw aside bad memories; a time to gather all the good memories and share them with family and friends. There are times to be sensitive and to give a hug and other times to refrain.
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
There are times when God gives us good things and times when he takes them away. There is a time to remember and a time to forget.
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
There is a time to tear things up and time to fix things. There is a time to sit and listen and a time to speak up.
8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
We must love all people, created in God's image, even though we may hate their sinful ways. As history continues to repeat itself we see there is a time for war and a time for peace.
Conclusion: In our lifetime each one of us will experience many changes. Never forget that the God of the mountain is the God of the valley and He will always be there for each one of us.
~ M. Miller
Modern theologians like to preach that for a Christian to be hungry or to suffer need indicates a lack of faith. This contradicts the message of the Word of God.
